What it is good for

People use it before they commit: to see whether a first tattoo suits a forearm or a collarbone, whether an idea fills a calf or an upper back the way they hope, or how big a piece should be. You describe the tattoo in your own words, so you can try a Fine line swallow and a Neo-traditional lion on the same photo, in Black & grey or Color, and bring your tattoo artist a picture of the one you like.

Tips for your photo and your words

Take the photo in daylight or bright, even light, with the camera straight on to the skin. Keep the whole spot in the frame with some skin around it, and move clothes or hair out of the way. Avoid flash glare, harsh shadows, filters and beauty effects. For the words, name the subject and one or two details, such as "a fox curled up among peonies": a short sentence is enough, and the style and the ink do the rest.

What it does not do

It makes a picture, a reference for your tattoo artist: it does not tattoo, predict how your skin heals or fades, or give medical advice. It changes only the tattoo and keeps your body, the light and the framing of your photo as they are.

Questions and answers

More answers in Help
How can I see what a tattoo would look like on me?

Add a photo of the spot, describe your tattoo and pick a style and the ink. Tattoonic places the tattoo on the skin in your photo, sized to that part of your body.

Can I use a design I already have?

This tool draws a new tattoo from your words. To see a design you already have on your skin, use Try on a design.

Is it free?

Yes. The free plan makes 3 designs a day, each with a watermark, and Pro makes up to 50 a day without it. Each idea, style or ink you try on a photo counts as one design.

Will the real tattoo look exactly like this?

Not exactly. It is a preview made by AI: your tattoo artist will adapt the lines, size and placement to your body, and real ink settles differently on every skin.
