Lettering

Tattoo lettering in Tattoonic turns the words you type, like a name, a date or a short motto, into a tattoo design on white paper. Pick one of 8 lettering styles, a decoration and the ink. The app draws your exact letters in that style first, so the design keeps your spelling.

What it is good for

Lettering is for anyone who wants words in a tattoo: a child's name, a date that matters, a line you live by. A spelling mistake in a tattoo is hard to undo, so the app draws your words in the chosen style before the design is made, and the letters follow what you typed. Use it to compare styles on your own words before you book, then bring the design you like to your tattoo artist.

Tips for your words

Keep it short: one to three words or a date read best on skin. Check spelling, capitals and accents before you go on, because the design copies exactly what you type. Write a date the way you want it inked, with dots, slashes or spaces. Match the style to the words: Script or Handwritten suit a name, Blackletter or Gothic a motto, Fine sans or Typewriter a small date. Choose None under Decoration for clean letters, or Banner for one or two short words.

What it does not do

It makes a picture, a reference to take to a tattoo artist. It does not tattoo, give medical advice or predict how thin letters will heal, spread or fade on your skin over the years; ask your artist how large small lettering should be. It keeps the words you typed and adds no others; only the look of the letters, the decoration and the ink change with your choices.

Questions and answers

More answers in Help
How many lettering styles can I choose from?

There are 8 styles, from Script and Blackletter to Chicano and Fine sans. Each style shows your own words, so you can compare them before you choose.

Will my words be spelled right?

The app draws your words in the chosen style first, and the design is made from that drawing, so the letters follow what you typed. Still, read the result letter by letter before you take it to your artist.

Can I write words in another alphabet?

Yes, you can type words in other scripts, such as Arabic, Hebrew or Japanese. The styles are made for Latin letters, so they show words in these scripts in a plain face.

How many lettering designs can I make for free?

The free plan gives you 3 designs a day, lettering included. Pro gives you 50 designs a day.
